Siblings Robert and Rachel Phillips

Rachel Phillips, Aquinas Academy MS class of ’14, (college freshman) plays soccer for Fairmont State University. She left Aquinas her junior year when her father took a new job. She has played in all 8 games and has scored two goals and has one assist so far in helping the team to a 5-1-2 overall record.

Against Notre Dame College in a 1-0 win:

Fairmont State improved to 3-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over Notre Dame College on Wednesday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field. Rachel Phillips scored on a header in the 59th minute following a corner kick by Louise Welch.

Against Glenville State in a lopsided 10-0 win:

Seven different Fairmont State players recorded goals in the victory, including two apiece from Louise Welch, Abigail Johnson and Katie Doyle. Kylee Altland, Abigail Fowler, Rachel Phillips and Lacy Bryant also added a goal apiece for the Falcons. Bryant also added four assists, and Welch chipped in three assists in the victory.

Robert Phillips, Aquinas Academy HS class of ’17, (college sophomore) plays soccer for Marietta College in Ohio. He has started all 9 games and has scored four goals so far in helping the team to a 6-3 record.

Against Wittenberg University in a 1-0 overtime win:

Sophomore Robert Phillips (Elkins, W.Va./Aquinas Academy (Pa.)) scored the only goal of the match as Marietta College slipped past Wittenberg University, 1-0, in overtime Sunday (Sept. 2) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 0-2 overall.

Against Bethany College in a 3-0 win:

Robert Phillips (Elkins, W.Va./Aquinas Academy (Pa.)) scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute to put the match out of reach. Phillips dribbled through the Bison defense and fired a shot inside the right post for his second goal of the season.

Against Washington and Jefferson in a 4-0 win:

Robert Phillips (Elkins, W.Va./Aquinas Academy (Pa.)) made it 4-0 with a goal in the 60th minute. Evan Taylor (Bay Village, Ohio/) crossed the ball into the box where Phillips was waiting to head it home for his third score of the season.

Against Hiram College in a 3-1 win:

20 seconds later, Robert Phillips (Elkins, W.Va./Aquinas Academy (Pa.)) notched the game winner. Andy Rolfes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) sent a through ball to Phillips inside the 18. Phillips fired the ball past Hiram keeper CJ Keith for a 2-1 Pioneer lead. The goal was his fourth of the year.

Our thanks to these former Aquinas students who will be working to coordinate Alumni events and activities on behalf of all Aquinas Academy high school and middle school graduates! Their first order of business will be to make contact with high school and middle school graduates from the classes of 1999 to 2013, as well as many Aquinas students from the early years of the school.
